Ryton Methodist Church

This is our vision

Ryton Methodist Church seeks to develop and share in a vibrant Christian ministry offering resources to support family and community development. We aim to reach out to our community by serving others and encouraging all individuals to recognise and use their spiritual gifts.

We would love you to be part of it.

Join us on Sundays:

9.00 - 9.45 Traditional service with organ (except first Sunday of month. Check on The Essentials (see Home page), as this service may occasionally not be held on other dates).

10.30 - 11.30 All age service with mostly contemporary music and Sunday school plus monthly Godly Play*

*A new family friendly worship style that allows children and adults to find and hear God's voice. Sand, wooden figures, felt and gold boxes might seem unlikely materials for spiritual accompaniment but along with space and silence these are the tools of Godly Play.

6.00 - 7.00 Traditional service with organ and choir.

Refreshments are served between the morning services and after the evening service.

Join us on weekdays:

We meet in Cell groups for Bible study and as a church family we organise social activities and events, as well as offering our premises to community groups. You'll find information about events and activities on our notice boards and in Essentials (downloadable on our Home page).

Join us on Saturdays (monthly):

4.00 - 6.30 Messy Church is a chance for families to meet and make friends, and have lots of fun. Check Essentialsand our blog to know when it's happening.

Our minister is the Rev Janet Capstick. Read all about her below

I was born at Willington Quay maternity hospital, to a Methodist family. I have two younger sisters, both of whom still live on Tyneside. School led to St Martins College Lancaster, where I hoped to train to be a teacher. However, a call to preach led me down a different path! I trained for the ministry at Manchester, getting involved in missions and chaplaincy work as well as studying.

In my first circuit – Sunderland- I met Trevor at District Synod, and the rest, as they say, is history. Our three children Nathan, Josh, and Iona are Kendalians [Cumbrians]. I, the Geordie, am the odd one out – Trevor is a Cumbrian too. We job shared in Kendal for 10 years, then moved to West Yorkshire, then Stockton & now here!

I love spending time with the family, walking, gardening, reading, and making soup!

You can contact Janet on 0191 413 2494 or by emailing minister@rytonmethodistchurch.org
