Here's a photo to prove it!

It's Christian Aid Week!

Our band of collectors is out this week bringing the message of Christian Aid into homes around Ryton. We're proud to be part of a national church movement that raises millions of pounds every year which is spent, through our partners on the ground, supporting our neighbours around the world, as this year's poster reminds us.                                                                                           .

On Saturday March 19th  there's a wonderful night of entertainment in store for us.

The popular Gibside Singers, a women's choir based in Rowlands Gill, are performing for us in the church, with cornet player Philip Tate as guest soloist. Tickets cost £5  and can be bought on the door. Proceeds will help to fund repairs to our organ. The concert starts at 7 p.m.

Fiona's talent nationally recognised

Recently Fiona Thompson's poetic gifts got well deserved national recognition when she won the Carers UK Creative Writing Competition with her moving poem 'After Diagnosis'.

Many in our church family know about her husband David's devastating diagnosis of  Non Specific Interstitial Pneumonia and have read the poem. But  we thought all our web visitors should have a chance to read it, along with the article she wrote about what prompted her entry - which you can find by clicking on this link:

After Diagnosis

By Fiona Ritchie Walker

Three months and all the ‘me’ words gone,

career, ambition, choice.

The ‘we’ times changed forever

the day we heard them say ‘terminal’.

There’s a new meaning to the word ‘care’.

We wear smiles as often as we can,

not brave, just knowing each day

can’t be wasted. Tick. Tick.

Our specialist subjects become

oxygen, exacerbation, wheelchair.

Favourite places are barred

by heavy doors, elaborate stairs.

The world shrinks. All the foreign coins

in holiday pockets and bags

lose their worth. We travel slowly

within a shrinking radius,

notice blackbirds and pigeons,

frog spawn. We cook onions

from neighbours’ allotments.

In the cinema we hold hands.

Farewell and thanks to Judith

Our Youth and Family worker Judith Stoddart completed her fruitful time with us at the end of December. Currently in training for full time ministry, Judith will be on a placement in Blaydon, so not too far away from us.

We said thankyou to Judith at our service on 27th December and wished her every blessing in her new post.
